Per standard, we are in bold.
First off, how has your day been so far?
My day has been great so far. My parents came down for the weekend so I just went out to breakfast with them and said my goodbyes because I won’t be seeing them now for about 3-4 months.
So many of our readers might not know who you are. So tell us about yourself. Maybe an interesting fact that not many people know about?
Well my name is Michael Economos, I’m 20 years old and I play in the NAHL for the Corpus Christi IceRays. My teammates call me either Eco or OldManEco.
A little bit about your past before high school. Did you play any other sports besides hockey?
I love to hit the links with my dad when I’m back home and I also played baseball up to my sophomore year in high school till I decided to focus on hockey.
How old were you when your first laced up your skates?
I was 4 years old, my sister was a figure skater and I was dying to get on the ice during free skate after her sessions and I’ve loved it ever since.
What type of forward do you consider yourself? (Scorer, playmaker, enforcer, etc.)
Mucker, grinder, loose puck finder.
Is there anyone you used to, or still try to model your game around? And if so, why?
When I was little I use to play shinny hockey and act like I was Joe Sakic but then when I realized I’m not a skilled guy. After that I just tried to play my style and never really tried to model my game off of anyone.
I love to ask this question, because it really shows the human side of hockey players. What’s a day in the life of Michael Economos?
A pretty normal day for me is to wake up and have an early morning practice, then head over to Panda Express and chow down on some orange chicken. After that I usually try to better my hockey skills by playing my roomies in a couple games of chel13. Then by that time I usually find it the right time to fly my mini remote control chopper around and hanging with the billets and the roomies.
During the season, what do you miss most about home?
The biggest thing for me is my mom’s home cooking! We are fed great here but nothing beats home cooking.
In the off-season, how do you kill the time? Working out at the gym? Spitting bars with Chucky Slick?
During the off-season I have a full time job working for my city, which sucks, but then after work I would go to the gym get a good workout in then spend time with the family by the pool. As far as rapping with chucky, that might be soon to come.
In your entire hockey career, what has been the highest point?
My highest point so far would probably be winning a AAA Illinois state championship with the Chicago Young Americans in 2010.
How about your lowest point?
Coming to the realization that I have no hands.
How did you persevere from that?
Played chel to try and improve them… didn’t work.
Every hockey team does pranks. There’s no secret. I doubt that the IceRays are much different. What’s the best prank this year?
There are so many that go on its hard to remember the best one. But I guess for me it would have to be when I woke up to go to the bathroom at about 4AM and when I went to go lay down in my bed chucky was hiding under the covers and popped out. I had a quick heart attack then we couldn’t stop laughing.
Do you have any advice for any aspiring hockey players?
Just remember that no matter what has happened in your hockey career, everything happens for a reason. I know that is a textbook answer but I can tell you from experience.
Do you have any recommendations of people who I should interview?
Well if you want to keep it in the household of chuck and I you could interview our rookie roommate, Brandon Berkley (@BrandonBerk27), but if you want to interview someone who has been everywhere and done everything hit up Rudy Sulmonte (@RudyBeauty).
I like to end off my interviews with a random question unrelated to hockey. Favourite food in the world. What is it?
that’s easy. hot wings.
Thank you for your time. If you wonder what he does, check this out:
