I know I’m a little late to the party, but it was announced that the New York Islanders would be moving to Brooklyn at 2015. They are moving to the new Barclays Centre. The team will be entering a 25 year lease. The NHL Board of Governors will not need to sign off on the move as the move from Long Island and Brooklyn is considered a move in the same territory. However, it is expected that the New York Rangers have to sign off on the deal as it approaches their territory. Luckily, the Rangers are expected to give the thumbs-up on this deal. People who have Islanders jerseys don’t fret though; the team name is expected to be the same. So no need to buy new jerseys!
